Seyi Makinde, Udom Emmanuel, Olu Of Warri, Crown Prince of Saudi, Others Bag African Industrial Development Award

Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the founder of the Misk Foundation and Crown Prince of Saudi Mohammed bin Salman have been nominated to receive the African Industrial and Development Awards 2022.

The award is being organised by Dotmount Communications in partnership with The Times of Jerusalem, Associated Press, and Yahoo Finance, with support from CNN.

While Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation and Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) are major sponsors of the award ceremony which will be covered live by Channels TV.

A statement signed by the conference director, Aisha Salisu, said, “The awards event would recognize, reward, and celebrate organisations, institutions and individuals that are contributing to the innovation, progressive and inspirational changes taking place in terms of good governance, growth and development in the sector and the general economy in Africa.”

Other winners of the African Industrial and Development Awards 2022, billed to take place at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, are the Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, the Chairman of UBA Plc and Heirs Holdings, Tony Elumelu, the Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mallam Mele Kyari and the former Director-General of NAPTIP, Dame Julie Okah-Donli.

Also, National President of the Naval Officers’ Wives Association, Hajiya Nana Aisha Gambo, Founder of the Mallpai Foundation, Hajiya Aisha Atiku Bagudu and a former First Lady of Benue State, Arch. Yemisi Suswam.


According to the organiser the Crown Prince possesses extraordinary charisma that is rare among world leaders, he established the Misk Foundation in 2011, a platform targeting over 300,000 entrepreneurs for support in developing their startups from 185 countries, and he has integrity in opinions that has earned him the respect and appreciation of all around the world.

Under Seyi Makinde’s leadership, Oyo has transformed in infrastructural development. More than 500 major infrastructural projects such as the construction of Flood Management Structure at Ikumapayi Ibadan, reconstruction of the 65km Moniya-Ijaye-Iseyin Road, dualisation of the 7.3km Agodi Gate-Old Ife-Adegbayi Junction, Off-grid rural electrification amongst others.

The administration has also trained several thousands of youths in the state via several skills training and empowerment programmes that have been organised not only to make them self-reliant but also to take people off the streets.

Makinde’s administration can be described as impactful and soul searching for the benefit of the Oyo people. The governor has continued to reach out to the people with various incentives to boost the living standard of vulnerable Oyo residents.

As a lover of education, His Excellency views child education as a right owed by the government and he has spent billions of Naira in the construction of 7 model primary schools in different locations.

Including the construction of 8 model schools, 51 blocks of classrooms with toilet facilities. The renovation of 88 classroom blocks and Installation of boreholes in 36 schools amongst other laudable educational projects.

The Olu of Warri will be awarded for his immense contribution which has brought so much excitement, vitality, innovation and hope to the Itsekiri people, and all those living within the kingdom spread across the three LGAs in Delta State and beyond.

He also launched the Iteskiri Health Insurance program yesterday in Warri with 150,000 beneficiaries.

The programme was designed to provide Itsekiri with sustainable access to quality private healthcare service providers (HSP) in Iwereland and nationwide.

His contribution to peace and growth of the Warri Kingdom and Delta State since he assumed the ancient throne of his forebears has been enviable, which has made the state witness phenomenal transformation in terms of peace and development.

Governor Udom Emmanuel on his part has transformed the economy of the State via industrialization and sustained public-private sector initiative, thereby opening up opportunities for growth and improved living standards.

He has also pursued the task of Rural Development and Integration with all vigour, bringing the benefits and dividends of our democratic governance to every nook and cranny in the state, and providing basic amenities of life to all.

And provide trade, commerce and tourism between Akwa Ibom and the rest of Nigeria, and in fact, the rest of the world.

During the conference and awards the former President of Ghana John Mahama will deliver a keynote address at the event scheduled to hold on September 9, 2022 at Transcorp Hilton Hotels, Abuja, Nigeria.

With the theme: “Driving Innovation and Enabling Transformation in Digital Economy” and seeks to have a critical and empirically-grounded solution based discussion around the potentials and realities of the African digital economy.

Speaking further, the Event Director said the 2022 edition will be an assemblage of national and global policymakers, business leaders, finance experts, development partners, and sector regulators that will lead and participate in sessions focused on fostering trade and market openness in the digital economy in Africa.

She said the key thrust of the conference is to provide opportunities to discuss and treat topics that stretch into the latest advances in artificial intelligence and related innovations that are expanding the frontiers of the digital revolution.

She said popular Nigerian actress Linda Osifo will be the host.

According to her, the conference presents an opportunity to further the conversations and network around the shared values of progress, development, and advancement for the African continent.

Much has been said about the potential of the digital economy in Africa, but predictions and proclamations are often made in the absence of evidence.
“Over the last few years, policy-makers have predicted that Africa’s rapidly changing connectivity will lead to radical changes in human welfare and economic development. We, therefore_ see a need to foster a critical and empirically-grounded discussion around the potentials and realities of African digital economies,” the statement said.
