The visit comes to support Comorian Committee for Human Rights to apply for accreditation before the Accreditation Sub-Committee of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), after improving its legal and technical status to be classified as Class A in the Global Alliance in Geneva.
President of Arab Network presented to President of Comoros a study of the law establishing a Comorian Committee and the points that need to be amended enabling Committee to comply optimally with Paris Principles of 1993.
She also requested to issue directives to allocate an appropriate headquarters for the Comorian Committee.
During the meeting, Al Attiyah reviewed the Arab Network’s path in supporting the Comorian Committee over the eight years since 2014, by participation in 33 different events, including meetings and conferences of the Global Alliance and the Arab Network, conferences, seminars and dialogues on human rights.
She affirmed that the Arab Network continues to provide the necessary support to Comorian Committee to be classified by the Global Alliance, including providing the necessary advice in the process of preparing and submitting the accreditation file.
Al Attiyah called for the necessity of amending the law establishing Comorian Committee and supporting the government for the National Institution to play its role while preserving its independence, so that it could obtain an A rating.
She said that the Committee’s obtaining the A grading reflects positively on the country’s reputation before the international community, as this classification is an indication of the State’s respect and promotion of human rights in Comoros.
“We have come to visit our brothers and sisters in the Comoros, in order to provide the necessary support to the member of the Arab Network, the National Human Rights Committee in the Comoros, to enable it to play the role entrusted to it in promoting and protecting human rights,” said Al Attiyah.
She stressed that Arab Network spared no effort to support it to overcome obstacles until the committee’s adoption and classification in Geneva, pointing out that in order to achieve this goal, everyone must cooperate in this regard.
